Retire in Ashland Here's why I would retire in Ashland, Oregon, a city of about 20,000 people 15 miles north of the California border near the Oregon coast.Ashland is home to Southern Oregon University. That provides opportunities for education and the chance to spend time with others who value education. Ashland is a town of history. There are many Victorian buildings. And if you really want to go back in time, you can use the oldest working telephone booth in Oregon. The best thing in my mind is the Ashland Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
